All the feels… Trust Fenn to write a book that hits me right in the feels. I knew Eben and Tryggr already from before, as the Maid and the Orcs is one of my absolute favorite books of the series and probably my whole life, and I still didn’t expect Tryggred by the Orc to hit like that – but before I knew what was happening to me, I was bawling my eyes out. I identified so much with Eben: he struggles exactly with my brand of childhood trauma and all the consequences of it, never feeling good enough, wanting…

Olivia Hayle is one of my 1-Click authors. Instant auto-buy, no regrets. Usually, the “accidentally married in Vegas” trope doesn’t catch me. This time, it did. The Characters Connie: She’s tough and imminently capable — and struggles so much with feeling like nothing she ever does will be enough for her family to see her as that. She wants to be seen, wants to be trusted — and can’t trust the men in her family with her problems, because then they’ll never trust her to take care of herself. It’s a sticky situation to be in, and I feel…

I’m a sucker for Marriage-in-Trouble romances I just can’t resist the story of two (or more) people who find themselves at odds and have to fight and find a way back to each other. Of course, the trope has one big problem: how to create a conflict that is so believable that the following ice age between the spouses makes sense, and the reconciliation is so much sweeter. Maybe I just love the trope because I’m a sucker for angst, because finding a compelling, satisfying marriage-in-trouble romance is almost as hard as writing one. To Have and to Hoax…

The story I’ve been waiting for… First of all, that cover is gorgeous. Absolutely swoonworthy. And I’ve been so looking forward to this story, because romances between orcs and human men in Finley Fenn’s Orc Sworn/Orc Forged universe are something I definitely need. And the stakes are high in this, as two enemy warriors fall for each other during the brutal war between orcs and humans. The Characters Aulis Gerrard: Once idealistic, he’s now battle-hardened, tired, and disillusioned. Questioning the sense of it all, of going on, fighting on. He’s principled and so, so good, and he longs for…

This book is brilliant. Laugh-out-loud funny, heartwarming, swoony. He falls first and hard. I wouldn’t class it as a real enemies-to-lovers romance, as they only dislike each other during their first meeting. After that, they work really well together — up until the big third act crash. Their fake relationship feels real from the start, and there’s a legitimate reason for them to fake it — and their falling out is as character driven as their falling in love is. This is such a heartwarming and well crafted romance. I could kick myself that I almost skipped it because…

This fake relationship is comedy gold. Seriously. It’s laugh out loud funny — both leads have unique, snarky, absolutely killer funny voices. I wish I could write funny like that. Heat Level I wouldn’t exactly call this “high heat”, more middle heat with a little steam, but despite the length of 478 pages, and the first sex scene at around 60%, I didn’t miss it (which is rare for me, even rarer than a book having too much sex for me). The focus of the story was on the slow, emotional development,  the growing closeness, the bonding through spitefulness, and…

I hate it when books make me cry! (That’s a lie. I love it). This was really deeply character driven, and so, so good. I’ve been put through the emotional wringer. Just, wow. At around 87%, I didn’t think a happy ending was possible, but Wilder pulled it off. KUDOS! Grey and Ethan are both incredibly real from the start (I want to be able to pull that off!). I was hesitant to read a romance about actors in Hollywood as it’s generally not a topic I’m interested in, but they’re both so, so cute! I love how excruciatingly slow…

Games With The Orc
January 16, 2023

Games with the Orc is such a wholesome, sweet, and hot story! Khell’ar and Sunny are well rounded characters that are perfect for each other, and the tension growing between them from the start is so well done. Kathryn Moon is so good at writing emotional pining. Once Khell and Sunny start falling for each other and all the hard to ignore feelings come out to play, the tension is just delicious. You can see how they’re perfect for each other, how their kinks match up (holy hotness! They’re on fire!), and it’s so sweet how Khell cares for Sunny,…

A Masters of The Manor Novella When Thea Miller sells 34 plastic skulls to the gorgeous stranger at a garage sale, she doesn’t know he takes her mother’s life savings with him. As the town’s new resident psychiatrist, Charles Montgomery has a reputation to uphold; giving in to his desire for twisted games isn’t on the agenda. But Thea is hard to resist, and when he catches her breaking into his house to steal the skulls back, he proposes a deal: a chase through the woods. If she wins, the skulls are hers. She wants the money. One game of…

This book shows that a story about getting dark, scary capture fantasies fulfilled doesn’t actually have to be dark and scary. “Captivated” is a fluffy, sunshine-warm snuggle-blanket of a story, a beauty-and-the-beast treat that is at once hilarious and sexy and fucking deep. Autumn is an Australian ray of sunshine who wants to do stand-up comedy, while Blake is a hulking beast of a man who detests sunshine, people, and the outside. They couldn’t be more different, and yet they find out that they both gravitate towards the same dark fantasies — about each other, no less — through a…
